Beside the seaside, beside the sea
“Oh, we do like to be beside the seaside…”; so, on the 4th of July, 10 residents and staff of The Old Rectory donned their sun hats and packed their sun cream, before setting off on our annual trip to Worthing.
It was a fine, summer’s day and perfect for enjoying a leisurely drive through the Sussex countryside. But there was no need for a picnic, as when we arrived a delicious lunch awaited at Harry Ramsden’s fish and chip restaurant opposite the pier.
Having satisfied our hunger, everyone emerged refreshed and ready to enjoy some bracing sea air, so we decided to take in the view from the pier. It was a bright and breezy day with the sunlight bouncing off the waves, as we took up the perfect vantage point overlooking the beautiful coastline.
There’s nothing quite like a traditional British seaside town. The familiar sound of seagulls overhead provided the soundtrack to our contemplations, and all seemed right with the world. After an hour or so, everyone was feeling invigorated, yet relaxed, and ready to make the journey back home to Ewhurst.
But we couldn’t leave without one last treat; a trip to the seaside just wouldn’t be the same without an ice-cream! So, without further ado, it was Mr Whippy cornets all round as we drove home and reflected on an enjoyable day whilst quietly planning our next visit.
